I. Write a ten paragraph essay on what you understand about the origin of life on planet earth.
Include:
1) Time frames setting the stage for life to appear.
2) Conditions before during and after the primordial soup.
3) Hypothesis regarding the different that life may have started.
4) Significance of oxygen-reducing vs. oxygen-rich environment
5) What the first living organisms must have looked like and requirements they needed to survive. (The things necessary
for RNA and DNA)
6) What basic components (elements, compounds, and structures) are necessary for modern life and where did they come from.
(like oxygen and carbon)
Rubric
Excellent Paper:
1. Contain the question written at the top. Covers all the points in a logical and chronological fashion, and has references
from your lecture notes or article to back up claims. Has a minimum amount of personal opinion unless backed up by quotable
scientific evidence.
